Welp, our bedroom has been updated— again. Off the back of our bedroom is a beautiful, sunny, added space that has always served as my office. But over the years, it just became a collecting zone & the clutter piled up. Thanks to a very sleepless baby & nap schedules that didn’t line up we decided the best thing for our family was to move Otto (9 months at the time) to his own space & flip my office space into a nursery. Otto was no longer sleeping well in the nursery nook next to our bed- he would wake up & see me and cry until we responded. It got rough for a moment & we ended up sleeping in the living room for many nights, at which point we realized the switch needed to happen, & fast.
We didn’t have a lot of time & we didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so those were our parameters. Thanks to a gallon of white paint, a lot of decluttering, some furniture shuffling & the addition of only ONE new item (a Lorena Canals washable rug for our bedroom!) we were able to make the switch rather seamlessly & experience semi-decent sleep once again!
This update was more than just a new space for my desk & for Otto to sleep. I learned a LOT along the way, like how to work with what you have & shop your home. But the greatest lesson being with clutter (emotional & physical— see more on that here). I got really real with some clutter that I may not have otherwise gotten real with had I not been forced to. And now I’m learning that I can function better with less. I also manage the clutter so much better now, I hate to go to bed with things piled up on my desk (bills, tasks, mail, projects, etc.) so I address them as fast as I can now. It’s been a wonderful update & learning experience overall.
Otto isn’t that much further away from us now, but the ability to read in bed at night with a light on & talk with my husband is a wonderful treat. It has been so fun to see this space evolve to meet our needs over the years, I truly believe you can do anything with whatever space you are in to make it work.
