JANUARY READING LIST REVIEW

Viklund Made January Reading List | Books Reading Literature

This year I set a goal to prioritize more time for reading by reading 50 books. I shared some tips for how I’ve recalibrated my time to work towards my reading goal, you can find those tips here.

Here is my recap of the books I have read in January & am still reading along with the books I plan to read in February. I am by no means a book critic, just a book lover, so my reviews are simply my thoughts on each book. I highly recommend using the Goodreads app to check out a variety of reviews & synopsis on books & to add books you are interested in to your reading list. The books I read are linked however I also encourage you to shop at your local bookstore, used bookstore or library for titles of interest when you can.

We Are The Weather: Saving The Planet Begins at Breakfast by Jonathan Safran Foer: I flew through this book in less than 24 hours. I think it’s a very important read & found Foer’s opinion of why people aren’t more active about climate change interesting. I also appreciated the way he shared his internal dialogue around guilt & struggles with making the changes he knows he needs to make. This book also revitalized my interest in World War II history & stories as Foer explores certain connections between the climate crisis & human behaviors during WWII. A great read overall & I am glad I took the time to dig in.

The Wives by Tarryn Fisher: This book came my way via Book of the Month. This was another fast read for me as I felt hungry to wrap my head around what was going on. It’s a total thriller that kept me turning pages & left my mind in a complete twist!

My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite: Because I wanted to gain some momentum towards my goal early on I picked another fast-paced read for the month. I enjoyed a fresh new perspective & setting in this book as well as the writing style. I found this story entertaining overall but I wanted a bit more from it in the end.

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear: I listened to this book on audio & enjoyed the content & systems shared. I ended up purchasing a copy of the book so that I could go back & reference some of the tactics & graphics referenced (even though they are all available online). I have practiced some of these things in the past or am doing so currently & I think these approaches are spot on. Nothing I learned was groundbreaking but overall the book was interesting, compelling & helpful.

CURRENTLY READING: Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson & listening to How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease by Michael Greger, MD on audio & both are amazing so far. I will share my reviews of them included in my February book review.

If I can I also hope to squeeze in these titles in February & share my thoughts after I do:
