MAY READING LIST REVIEW

BRITTANY VIKLUND OF VIKLUND MADE MAY READING LIST REVIEW

Here is a recap of the books I read in May! The majority of the books I read this month came through my Book of The Month subscription— which is a monthly subscription where you choose a new book from a curated selection of new titles. It’s been one of the greatest pleasures I’ve given myself this year & I love being introduced to new books each month (often there are early releases too). You can sign up & get your first book for $10 + free shipping by using this link (I am not a partner but every member has a shareable referral link & when someone uses to subscribe they save money & you earn a free book credit). BOTM is currently identifying their gaps in offering diverse authors & moving forward they have articulated a commitment to more Black authors & POC in their monthly book offers, I look forward to seeing this actualize & plan to maintain my membership only upon such future actions. If any of these books catch your interest please consider purchasing them through your local & independent bookstores, I am linking these books to Bookshop.org where you can order directly from an independent bookstore & support independent bookstores (to be clear— I do not earn any commission on purchases made via any of the links on this post, I simply value the role of independent bookstores). You can follow my book reviews in real-time on the Goodreads app too. If you want to see past book lists you can find those here: April | March | February | January

BRITTANY VIKLUND OF VIKLUND MAY READING LIST REVIEW

Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore: Beautifully written historical fiction told through the stories of 5 women in west Texas in the 70s. I didn’t know what I was in for but I got so much more than I expected. As a woman, the book will infuriate you at times & break your heart & as someone who grew up in southern New Mexico & currently lives in Oklahoma, this story felt even more personal.

Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover: Tara’s story is remarkable, to say the least, & it’s no mystery why this book has received the praise that it has. I found Tara’s writing style to completely suck me in, from the moment I opened the book I felt as though I was right there at Buck’s Peak.

Happy and You Know It by Laura Hankin: You get a little bit of everything from this mommy club story. I certainly found it entertaining with many relatable feelings & emotions. Some things made me sad, some things made me laugh, some things blew my mind & some things made me consider my own role as a mother. A juicy read that would be perfect for summer.

Untamed by Glennon Doyle: This book!! I absolutely loved it & want to gift it to every human I know. Glennon does such a masterful job capturing her personal journey while offering so much to the reader to chew on & take away. There are lots of little lessons, thoughts to consider, shifts in perspective, & more that any reader can gain from her words. I learned things about myself, about history, & about the experiences of those different from me. I plan to read this one over & over & revisit alllll the dog-eared pages that I saved.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: If you are looking for a fast-paced psychological thriller this one was that for me, it kept me up late & on the hook.
